Oil on Canvas (16”x20”) 2022-25

A project that began is a design for my website header for my last graphic design course. This course was dedicated to building an online portfolio for our work, so I thought it would be fitting if my header was a painting, as my primary/preferred medium is oil.

I created Garmalack as a mischievous, yet whimsical character in reflection of my stylistic interests. I created three different sketches of him but found this concept to be the most intriguing. Here, I have him ziplining over the mushroom forest with storms a brew behind him. He is very much looking for mischief and trouble that awaits.

Initially, I only finished the subject and the sky, and that alone worked nicely for my header. However, I was very fond of him and knew I needed to finish bringing the forest to life at some point. I didn’t get to that point for a few years, but I’m happy to finally see him in his entirety.
